June 23, 2005-When Anne Elizabeth Moore and Liz Mason first conceived
of
the SPAZZES WITH GLASSES: BOOK NERD TOUR SUMMER 2005 in late
Spring, they were unprepared for the response of swarming fans
clamoring for autographs-or at least the chance to touch their
spectacles.
The July 18-25 East-Coast tour SPAZZES WITH GLASSES will include
selections from Moore’s ever-amusing Hey Kidz, Buy This Book! A
Radical Primer on Corporate and Governmental Propaganda and Artistic
Activism for Short People, which In These Times claimed "should be
required back-to-school reading," and Mason’s hilarious critical
overview of contemporary historical songwriting, the Bad Lyrics
Project.
Described by one enthusiastic audience member as being "almost
exactly like M*A*S*H*, Moore’s performance will also include a
description of her cultural intervention on Mattel’s American Girl
Place, as seen in Bitch, the Chicago Sun-Times, Lumpen, and Alternet.
If
audience members are lucky, Mason will grace certain groups with the
dramatic national reprise-unseen since her days with the Bristol
Renaissance Faire-the Eating Show, during which Mason consumes a
meal.
Live!
Joining Moore and Mason for individual dates during SPAZZES WITH
GLASSES
will be coloring-book creator Jacinta Bunnell, activist and writer
Julie
Novak, and underground author Mickey Hess. And,
hopefully, quite a few audience members of all ages. Following their
performances, Moore and Mason will sleep, or engage in amusing
behavior for their own benefit. Also, they will drive to the next show.

people’s questions about gender, sex, sexuality, sexism, homophobia,
and
crushes before going on to create two genderific coloring books for

LIZ MASON is the editor of Caboose, a zine that differs in theme with
each issue. Her work has appeared in the Chicago Tribune,
workingfortheman.com, Reglar Wiglar and more. She has, regrettably,
actually appeared on daytime television’s reality show soap opera
Starting Over to provide instruction on publishing zines, which
executives at NBC referred to as “pamphlets.” Venus magazine called
her
“Funny, entertaining, and satisfying.”
ANNE ELIZABETH MOORE is the author of Hey Kidz! Buy This Book: A
Radical
Primer on Corporate and Governmental Propaganda and Artistic Activism
for Short People (Soft Skull Press, 2004) and Stop Reading This: The
Manifesto of Radical Literacy (Seattle Research Institute, 2004).
She
edited the first two Comics Journal Special Editions (Fantagraphics
Books, 2002) and currently lives in Chicago where she is the
associate
publisher of Punk Planet. She’s been called a “rad writer” by Time
Out
New York-Kids and a “Notable underground author” by the Onion. She’s
appeared on NPR, CNN and throughout the country (and Canada!) to
speak
about politics and visual culture. See
www.heykidz.org and www.independentsdaymedia.com.
JULIE NOVAK is a performance artist, visual artist and musician who
lives in New York. Aside from her work on radical coloring books that
empower young people, Novak has recently been organizing a radical
fat
variety and art show to raise money for PHAT Camp, a Chicago- based
fat
positive experience designed for youth to learn about
living in and loving their bodies. Check out: www.morethanjustphat.com.
