If you were to rely on the mainstream media, including so-called liberal news programs such as NPR, you probably wouldn't know that there's a real anti-war revolution taking place in the United States. This year, five poignant and increasingly radicalized national protests have taken place, dating back to January 27, 2007 when nearly half a million people took over Washington DC.
A November 11, 2007 report in the Washington Post stated that the United States has developed contingency plans to safeguard Pakistani nuclear weapons if they risk falling into the wrong hands. The newspaper quotes an unnamed former US official as saying "If an attempt were made by the US to seize the weapons to prevent their loss, it could be very messy." Even without US Special Forces tramping around Pakistan looking for nuclear weapons and long-range delivery systems, the situation can get very messy.Musharraf

It's a rough road in the independent media world, and it's recently gotten bumpier. Corporate media has become even more centralized with the purchase of The Wall Street Journal by Rupert Murdoch. New FCC Chairman Kevin Martin has promised to bring about a drastic relaxation of media ownership regulations in the coming months. Meanwhile, a handful of leading progressive publications closed down last year for financial reasons. It's now more important than ever to support the independent media you rely on for progressive news you don't hear from the mainstream.

Most likely, you would take action to stop it - lock your doors, hide your TV, or in one last ditch effort for revenge, at least hide your remote. Imagine you knew that in the broadest of daylight, corporations and government were going to pinch not your television, but the only TV channels that give you, the citizen, a voice and a hand in local programming?
