A deeply held belief in the U.S. is that no one, not even the president, is above the law. But what happens when government officials at all levels boldly evade the rule of law without consequence?
Climate change is ushering in new population dynamics. As men’s out-migration from indigenous and local communities continues to rise due to fall in land productivity, population growth and increasing outside opportunities for wage-labor, more women are left behind as de facto land managers, assuming even greater responsibilities in communities and households.
The US has supported Israel quite blindly at the UN throughout the years. Haley seems to adopt an entirely Israeli position with no regard whatsoever for her country's allies, or the possible repercussions of dismissing the only international body that still serves as a platform for international engagement and conflict resolution.
"The extractive model from the United States and Canada is one of the principal causes of the internal and external displacement and expulsion of people," said Enrique Vida Olascoaga of Voces Mesoamericanas. "Mining projects, hydro-electric, and monoculture have become far worse in the last seven years, since the beginning of the free trade agreements. Together with historic discrimination against indigenous peoples, campesinos, and people of African descent, there is a convergence of this violence within migration."
Nearly 30 years after the end of the Cold War, the nine nuclear states have nearly 15,000 nuclear weapons, each one many times more powerful than the bombs dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki in 1945, which killed hundreds of thousands almost instantly.
Politics in Britain have changed. The neoliberal legacy of Tony Blair may have finally expired. The idea that anything resembling the left must remain on the periphery has died with it. The future now shows more promise than we have seen for years in Britain.
