Burlington International Website plans ‘Webcam Chat’ with Bolivian activists

TowardFreedom.com is pleased to invite the public to our first ever ‘webcam chat’ with our webmaster and political activists in La Paz, Bolivia. We will meet in the studio of CCTV from 7 to 8:30 pm, Tuesday, Nov. 14, and discuss, with questions and answers through an audio and visual link, the current political situation in Bolivia with our associates at a cyber cafe in La Paz, Bolivia.  Both images will be viewed on a large monitor at the CCTV studio.

Participants from Bolivia are:

· Ben Dangl, Editor of Toward Freedom and author of, The Price of Fire: Resource Wars and Social Movements in Bolivia (AK Press, March 2007)

· Marielle Cauthin, journalist with the Bolivian newspaper, La Prensa and a former employee at the Ministry of Education under Morales.

· Abraham Bojorquez, activist and hip-hop artist in El Alto, the city which mobilized to oust two presidents in two years and overturn countless corporate policies.

They will discuss the hopes and challenges of the new Evo Morales government in Bolivia. They might touch on hot topics in the Andean country including coca issues, land reform, gas nationalization and the current assembly to rewrite the country’s constitution. Bojorquez will discuss the role of El Alto in the new Bolivia under Morales as well as his own hip hop music, which he calls "an instrument of struggle."

Each will speak about 10 minutes, and will be followed by questions from the U.S. side. The Bolivian participants might in fact have some questions for us about the U.S. elections!!

Participants are urged to arrive promptly at 7 pm.  The link will commence at 7:15. The studios of CCTV are located at 294 N. Winooski Ave., side entrance. The event is free, but please RSVP to [email protected].
