When President Bush made an appearance at the Miami Dade College graduation, The Miami Herald predicted that Bush would receive "more cheers than heckles." However, during his visit a group of people equal in size to the number of graduates greeted the president with a criminal's welcome on the hottest day of the year. On the same day, activists in cities across the country took to the streets calling for the impeachment of Bush and Cheney.

Forty two Democrats voted to keep the world's foremost torture school, the School of the Americas (SOA), open during a House vote on June 21. The vote was 203 yes, 214 no, 1 voting "present" and 19 not voting.   These Democrats voted no on the McGovern/Lewis Amendment that would have finally cut off funding to the SOA, now known as Western Hemisphere Institute for Security Cooperation (WHINSEC).

Why should you plan to head to Atlanta in the middle of the summer? Not for the cool breezes, that's for sure. But if you go between June 27 and July 1, you'll find a few thousand reasons all gathered - along with you, I hope - at the first ever U.S. Social Forum.

Cathy Webster, a grandmother from Chico, CA, was released from jail on May 18th after completing her 60 day sentence for crossing onto the U.S. Army Base at Ft. Benning, Georgia. She was participating in the annual protest against the U.S. Army School of the Americas.  

"I can't stress enough how vital public pressure is right now for Haramia's case. There needs to be a public outcry that there is no question in this case, everyone agrees that he did not pull the trigger, he never even touched the gun. He is being sentenced to die for driving a car, and that should outrage every single person that hears it."
