Last month Ferguson burned. Amidst the images of flames, teargas and blockages, there were as many people with cameras and cell phones as signs or molotovs. Everyone seemed to recognize the significance of these events, but there are many competing interpretations.

There is a fire that burns within everyday people. Fueled when disrespected or dehumanized, this fire ignites when people in our community are shot and killed by police. It is nurtured when those same people realize they are not alone, and learn that this rage is shared by many.

On December 3rd over 25 community members and activists from various social justice organizations based in Burlington, VT convened in conjunction with #UStired2, a nationwide effort to demand that the US cut funding to Mexico following a wave of human rights rights violations in the country. 

After the grand jury announced that Wilson would not be indicted, challenges to prevailing systems of justice have been launched from activists across the country.

The disappearance of 43 students from a rural school in Ayotzinapa, Mexico dedicated to training teachers mostly from indigenous communities has sparked outrage and solidarity throughout Mexico and the world. These horrible acts of violence must be understood within the context of an increasingly vile and murderous narco state.
