Nonviolent campaigns are often dramatic and catch the attention of millions—think of Standing Rock water protectors resolute in the face of a brutal police force. All the more puzzling that the concept of a “nonviolent campaign” is little known and often ignored when people talk about how to mobilize power.

At a moment when Trump’s new administration looks like a threatening new totalizing power holding sway over the whole country, what if instead that territory started to become a mosaic of local spaces of non-cooperation at scales ranging from renegade states and cities, to neighborhood spaces we walk through everyday?

Let’s get out of shock as fast as we can and build the kind of radical movement that has a genuine answer to the hate and fear represented by the Trumps of this world. Let’s set aside whatever is keeping us apart and start right now.
