February 12, 2013 is the official first day of production under workers control in the factory of Viomichaniki Metalleutiki (Vio.Me) in Thessaloniki, Greece. This means production organized without bosses and hierarchy, and instead planned with directly democratic assemblies of the workers.
Over this Labor Day weekend, hundreds of people from across Vermont, the US and Canada will come to the three day People’s Convention for Human Rights in Burlington, VT. The convention is a project of over 11 Vermont grassroots organizations that currently work in a wide array of areas, such as climate justice, disability rights, workers’ rights, and immigrant rights.
We the signers of this open letter from Noam Chomsky, Vandana Shiva, Boaventura de sousa Santos, John Pilger, and 40 other members of the interim decision body of the new International Organization for a Participatory Society, hope that you will circulate, email, and/or republish our letter, and, even more, that you will engage in and publish commentary regarding the organization’s purpose, implications, prospects, etc.

An Open Letter to All Who Seek A New and Better World
The Vermont People’s Convention (August 31st - September 2nd) in Burlington, Vermont will be a space where hundreds of people and organizations will gather to develop a broad grassroots vision for the direction of the state and beyond.
The following call was issued by Canadian-based non-government organisations, community groups and individuals to join the growing global movement for climate justice. It calls for mobilising in the lead-up and during the United Nations climate summit in Cancun, Mexico, over November 27-December 10.
The call was issued at a meeting of the endorsees with Bolivian President Evo Morales during the UN Millennium Development Goals Summit in New York on September 23. The Bolivian government hosted a “people’s summit” for real action on climate change in Cochabamba in April that drew representatives of social movements and parties from around the world.
An opportunity for the Burlington community to gain a deeper knowledge of current events in Africa; in particular, of the three countries where many Burlington area refugees come from - Congo (DRC), Somalia, and Sudan.
